Cables, Wires and Accessories for the Steel Industry

Whether in construction or, transport, or for tool and machine production - there are many industries that are impossible to imagine without steel. Therefore, it is considered the most important metal of our time. The Federal Republic of Germany is the largest steel producer in the European Union and the steel industry is, for this reason, indispensable.

In blast furnaces, liquid pig iron is produced from ferrous raw materials. It is then processed into crude steel in steel mills. The individual production processes involve extremely high temperatures and flying sparks, as well as highly corrosive substances. The cables and accessories used in steel production must be able to withstand these conditions.

But, in order for the required energy to reach the plants in the first place, the power supply around the site must also be established, and strict requirements are also placed on these cables. Thus, depending on the application, cable types with special core and sheath insulation are necessary. Whether control cables, data cables, or cable glands, HELUKABEL has the right products for this special industrial environment. And for connecting the transformer stations to the factory premises, HELUKABEL also has the right types of underground and medium voltage cables in its broad product portfolio.

The MULTITHERM 400-ES, for example, was specially developed for the steel industry. It is equipped with an additional, robust, braided, high-grade steel that protects it from aggressive substances such as casting powder and hydrofluoric acid, makes it mechanically highly resilient. The control cable can be used at temperatures up to 400°C. The HELUTHERM 1200/1200-ES can withstand temperatures of up to 1,100°C which is achieved thanks to a special core insulation consisting of glass-fibre braiding impregnated with silicone.

In the THERMFLEX 180 EWKF, usable at temperatures up to 180°C, both the outer sheath and the core insulation are made of a special silicone rubber material. In addition, the sheath is particularly resistant to abrasion and notching, which makes it far more resilient than a normal silicone cable. A longer lifespan is thus guaranteed. This control cable is also available in shielded and halogen-free versions. In addition, it is resistant to high-molecular oils, plasticisers, diluted acids, alkalis, and oxidants.

In the field of cable accessories, HELUKABEL offers heat-resistant cable protection conduit systems. For example, the HTP conduit for high temperature protection, which has a high insulation factor due to the silicone jacket containing iron oxide, can be used at temperatures up to 1,090°C for short periods of time. In addition, the HELU-S-RK-N cable lugs, which are made of nickel, can be used at temperatures up to 500°C, and the metal conduit with an Agraff profile made of stainless steel can be used at temperatures up to 600°C.
