Power Cables and High-Voltage Cables: Reliable Energy Distribution

High-voltage cables transport electrical energy with voltages from AC U0/U 0.6/1 kV safely from source to user. They are suited for distributing energy in buildings and industrial plants. As an energy cable manufacturer, HELUKABEL also offers underground, heavy-duty, three-phase power, and NYY versions of these cables (NYY: Standardised cable acc. to VDE (N), PVC core insulation (Y), PVC outer sheath(Y)).

A typical high-voltage cable consists of multiple components. The copper or aluminium conductor carries electricity while a layer of insulation (PVC or XLPE: cross-linked polyethylene) separates the conductors from one another. Screened designs feature a metal screen that surrounds the insulated cores. A robust PVC or PE sheath forms the outer protection.

HELUKABEL produces single-core and multi-core, high-voltage cables. Single-core variations are especially well suited for large cross-sections, while multi-cores are for compact installations. High-voltage cables can, depending on the standard (see cable data sheet), be installed underground without issue, as they exhibit an appropriate resistance to moisture, also making them suited for installation in the open.

Industrial operations use our high-voltage cables for powering machines, systems technology, and production lines. In buildings, these power cables transmit electricity from junction boxes to sub-distributors or directly to large consumers like elevators and air conditioning systems. High-voltage cables differ significantly from conventional installation cables. They carry higher voltage, have larger cross-sections, and more robust insulation. While installation cables are primarily used in buildings, power cables are suited for demanding environments and underground installations.

HELUKABEL produces all of its high-voltage cables according to applicable VDE standards, in particular DIN VDE 0276-603 for high-voltage cables and power distribution cables with a nominal voltage of 0.6/1 kV. The cross-sections span from 1.5 mm² to many hundred mm², depending on the application and power load.
