Single-Core Cables: Flexible Solutions for Control Cabinets and Engineers
Single-core cables make up the foundation of modern electronics installations. The consist of one solid conductor or a stranded wire made of multiple individual wires, which is coated in insulation. HELUKABEL also delivers silicone and PVC variants: Silicone single-core cables are especially resistant to heat, cold, and chemical influences, while PVC (polyvinyl chloride) designs are flame-retardant, cost-efficient standard solutions.

HELUKABEL also supplies pre-assembled single core wires in more than 20 standard colours—from classic black single strands to special identification colours. They are short-circuit proof, certified for different temperature ranges and fire classes, and comply with VDE or even UL standards. Our screened and double-insulated variations also fulfil the highest safety requirements. The current carrying capacity of single cores varies depending on the cross-section and environmental conditions. Important installation requirements to pay attention to
Because single cores do not have an outer sheath, they require a suited installation system to provide mechanical protection. Cable channels or protective tubing are essential. Single cores are not suited for installation underground. For this, we suggest one of our sheathed cables.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Due to their simple insulation, single cores should not be installed in drag chains. —except when used as an equipotential bonding conductor. For drag chain applications, we have double-insulated single cores, such as the HELUCHAIN® SINGLE 602-HF-J PVC UL/CSA in our portfolio. Due to their double insulation (insulation + outer sheath), these are able to be installed in drag chains, in cable troughs, or on cable racks.
All HELUKABEL single cores comply with relevant VDE standards and carry the required mark of approval. Our FIVENORM single cores are also certified according to multiple international standards, such as UL.
The approved colours of our single cores are filed in each relevant construction standard. For the H05 and H07 ranges, it is the DIN EN 50525-1 (VDE 0285-525-1): 2012-01.
Solid conductors consist of a single wire and are suited for static installations. Stranded conductors consisting of many fine wires offer higher flexibility for moving applications.
Single cores can be flexibly installed and are affordable. Because they do not have common sheath, they require separate mechanical protection. Sheathed cables contain multiple cores.
Depending on the requirements, our single cores are available in halogen-free and self-extinguishing designs with different fire classes. Please refer to the individual cable data sheet.
