Cables for solar energy systems: resilient against any weather

Cables for solar panels differ fundamentally from normal power cables. These special DC power cables connect solar modules together and transport the electricity they produce to an inverter station. As a manufacturer of solar cables, HELUKABEL develops cables for photovoltaic systems that easily withstand UV radiation, temperature fluctuations between -40 and +90°C, and mechanical loads. For floating solar farms, saltwater-resistant variations are available. Our PV cables are also available with integrated rodent protection and fulfil all common standards such as TÜV 2PfG 1169/08.2007 and IEC 62930.

What sets us apart—at a glance

  • Maximum UV resistance: minimum 25-year lifespan under direct exposure to sunlight thanks to optimised sheath materials.
  • Extreme temperature resistance: our cables function reliably at temperatures between -40–90°C in all climate zones worldwide.
  • Optional rodent protection: resilient cable construction prevents costly disruptions due to damage from rodents.
  • International certifications: proven quality according to TÜV and UL standards for projects around the globe.
  • Complete system solutions: from string cables to data cables, everything from a single source.

SOLARFLEX—UL-4703-certified solar cable for international photovoltaic projects

HELUKABEL offers a solar cable that is certified according to UL 4703, an important advantage for international projects. The SOLARFLEX-X series includes DC power cables for all applications with diameters ranging from 1.5–35 mm². These solar module cables easily handle DC voltages of several hundred volts and conduct the current with almost no resistance.

The SOLARFLEX-X series
SOLARFLEX cables are weather resistant and reliably transmit solar energy from the photovoltaic system to the grid connection.

Equipotential bonding and earthing of PV systems: compliant safety

According to DIN VDE 0100-540, all metal components of a PV system must be earthed. Equipotential bonding prevents dangerous contact voltages and protects against surge damage. HELUKABEL supplies special, UV-resistant earthing cables for PV systems. For the purposes of equipotential bonding, a diameter of 6 mm² is sufficient. For additional overcurrent or lightning protection, a diameter of 16 mm² is required. These cables are installed parallel to DC power cables and ensure that plants are constructed according to standard.

FAQ

Solar cables are made using special, UV-resistant materials and are optimised to transmit DC currents. They fulfil standards specific to photovoltaics and can withstand extreme weather conditions for decades.

High-quality solar cables from HELUKABEL can reach lifespans of 25–30 years.

Yes, we supply not only cables by the metre, but also pre-assembled cables for solar modules in standard lengths. We also create custom assemblies.

For equipotential bonding, a 6 mm² PE conductor is sufficient. For additional overcurrent or lightning protection, standards call for 16 mm².
